And it started with Peanut Butter

First my son posted this on the family WhatsApp

Then my daughter, the family nutrition watchdog,  posted: Hey. That one has sugar

Son: I was waiting for your comment

Daughter: Oh dear... I am too predictable!

Son: It was on special

Then me, of course: I have a similar problem in the pharmacy. A client may say “ I’m a diabetic - is there sugar in this medication?” I usually hold up a 5 millilitre medicine measure and ask how much sugar can fit into this spoon together with the other ingredients and the water. Sometimes we are talking about a tablet or capsule that may contain sugar or lactose as a filler.

After the blank look I suggest that “if that little bit of sugar worries you just put less jam on your bread or eat less potatoes. And give that chocolate bar you have in your bag to your spouse.” Of course, no-one wants to use less jam or potatoes or candy. Especially diabetics.

Similarly a menopausal woman may ask "wont these hormone tablets cause breast cancer?" Well it may, just the same as two glasses of wine or lack of exercise. She thinks and then says "I’ll stay with the wine."

Never mind the rest of the family who have to endure a menopausal woman soaked in wine. Of course it is important to use less sugar and often one has to negotiate with yourself - I usually quit pudding in favour of sugar in my coffee.

Some families call their mother’s hormone tablets (HRT, Hormone replacement therapy containing oestrogen with or without progesterone ) “Peace In The Home Tablets”

One does not need a laboratory test to determine whether the wife is taking her HRT tablets or not. You just have to wait till she gets home.
