The Karroo
is a semi-arid inland area in South Africa, comparable to the topography we used to
see in the ‘’Cowboy Western Movies’’ in our youth. It is characterized by wide
open spaces and flat topped mountains that are crowned with
cliffs. The well known Karroo bush is the staple for sheep and other livestock.
This drought resistant bush typically grows calf height, looks like Bonsai with
gnarled stems, small plump leaves that are herbal in aroma – giving meat
products a sought after flavour.
I live on the coast, but was called to do relief work for two weeks in a small
Karroo town – which happened to be my place of birth, and where I grew up till
I and other kids were packed off to boarding school.
Yesterday I
commented to a client about the heat (approaching 40C), and that I could not
remember what it was like in my childhood. He said that he was a veterinarian
and had worked among the farming community for the past forty years. He
commented that there had been no change in the weather/climate in those 40
years – summer was very hot and winter was very cold, while autumn and spring were
wonderfully moderate. During mid-summer December one could be surprised with a
snowstorm (and I remember one of these in town shortly before Christmas in the 1960's) or a mid-summer black frost that would annihilate bush and tree. No change in forty years.
He then
related about an archaeological dig in the area on a six thousand year old faeces (poop) mound produced by rock rabbit or Dassie (Rock Hyrax,
Cape Hyrax) The mound showed consistent bands throughout of dry periods with
evidence that the diet was bush, and wet periods where the diet was grass. No
change from today. The Vet declared that he did not believe in climate change – global warming
– hotcoldwetdry – or whatever you would like to call it. He has lived the sheep and cattle runs in open veld for 40 years.
But yes,
there is the belief by real scientists that the globe is heading for another
mini ice age.
Because this is what always happens historically (near examples
are mini ice ages during the Napolionic wars and WWII when Hitler attacked
Russia, and warm when London had malaria and vineyards) Real scientists believe (with real data) that carbon has nothing to do with hot-cold-wet-dry because carbon is a symptom, not a cause. That a rise in atmospheric carbon could safely
reach 10 times higher levels – to the levels that most food producing plants
evolved in. Global greening is already evident. Nothing we can do will change
this natural process. Taxes wont do it and crying wont either.
Well, perhaps
some real science in another post – but it would take a book.
The drive by
the liberalist left to impose the doctrine of global warming on us all is
purely political – not scientific. The first evidence is the socialistic tool
of litigating against dissenters and skeptics (using the power of the deep
state) – on very weak evidence.
Second, the western part of the world is close to
zero carbon emissions while communist china (the east)produces over 75% pollution
Yet the global warmists ignore china and focus on countries that are not guilty.
Why? If for example the USA ceases to use fossil fuels their entire industrial
complex will collapse. Probably three quarters of the population would be
destitute and dependent on the state – which would also be broke because of
reduced tax base. Hunger and anarchy would break out – like Venezuela last year,
or any other economy that collapsed. This situation is ripe for socialist
liberalist leftist takeover – a short step into communism and power for the
party politicians. Which is what China is – so leave their pollution alone
because they are already communist.
And that is
why they are psychotic about Trump. Trump saw the bull, pulled out of the
climate accord and provided work for millions of USA citizens.
